OVERVIEW: AN INTRODUCTION TO A VIEW TO A KILL (Press Kit Booklet - continued)

In pursuit of his official duties, 007 rubs shoulders with some of the world's most beautiful women.  Moviegoers and journalists alike refer to these actresses as "the Bond girls," a phrase that is used to describe everyone from the leading ladies to the background extras of each Bond adventure.

In addition to Tanya Roberts, Grace Jones, Fiona Fullerton and Lois Maxwell, the talented and attractive list of performers presented in A View to a Kill includes ALISON DOODY, a lovely Irish model who portrays the wicked Jenny Flex; PAPILLON SOO SOO, an Eurasian cover girl who portrays the equally evil Pan Ho; MARY STAVIN, a former Miss World who portrays British Secret Service agent Kimberly Jones; and CAROLE ASHBY, the tall and beautiful performer who returns from her debut in Octopussy to portray the enchanting Butterfly Lady.

A profile on the music of 007's latest mission begins with it's title song, which is performed by DURAN DURAN.  A world-wide sensation of the Eighties, these talented artists join the ranks of such legendary performers as Paul McCartney and Wings, Carly Simon, Sheena Easton, and others who have contributed to their gifts to the continuing Bond musical phenomena.  It is a phenomena that includes JOHN BARRY, who composes and conducts the score for A View to a Kill on his tenth Bond assignment.  John Barry and Duran Duran are the composers of the film's title song.

The contributions of Q Branch offer dramatic punctuation as well as humorous relief to A View to a Kill.  These range from a small robot surveillance machine called a Snooper that has been described as the canine of the computer era, to a fountain pen loaded with self-igniting ink, an eavesdropping device detector hidden within a cordless razor, and a curious electronic credit card that can open burglar-proof locks with ease.

As 007's principal adversary in A View to a Kill, Max Zorin is armed with his own array of high-technology equipment.    Among the industrialist's most fascinating devices is a graceful airship that contains a richly appointed conference room, and a special staircase designed to help even the most uncooperative passenger make a dignified exit.  Yet of all the hardware displayed in the film, one item in particular is bound to amuse audiences everywhere: a luxurious miniature submarine featured in the film's extraordinary pre-title sequence.

Despite the presence of these and other products of the filmmakers' imaginations, A View to a Kill represents a further refinement of the relatively down-to-earth approach which the 007 team established with For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy.  Director John Glen believes that this approach has brought one of the most dynamic stories of the series to A View to a Kill.

"Audiences are far more exacting and involved today -- they require more substance," Glen observes.  "This film has a more complex story line -- and as a result, in terms of both substance and action, it has been the most demanding Bond film yet."

Concludes Albert Broccoli, "We are satisfied that we are presenting the public with the calibre of motion picture entertainment that is expected of us -- the highest."

A View to a Kill is distributed throughout the United States and Canada by MGM/UA Entertainment Co.
